Article: Gutsy Guilt

I’ve read a lot of articles (both good and bad) by Christian leaders on sexual sin - adultery, homosexuality, pornography and other topics that I can't actually spell.  There’s a lot written, because quite frankly, while we’ve got blood running through our veins these are some of the top  issues men are going to struggle with.

We can mow the lawn and collapse on the lounge never to rise.  Yet we could save an entire apartment block from the flames, and at the suggestion of sex, find a new lease on life.

We are wired to be sexual beings.  And the world provides ample opportunity to express our sexual nature in ways that are anything but what God intended.

So if sinful men live in a sinful world where it’s easy and encouraged to indulge in sexual sin, there’s going to be very few (if any) who haven’t fallen into temptation in one way or another.  Some in “lesser” ways, some in “greater”.

And that’s why I found the article below so incredibly helpful.  Because while it needs to be clearly outlined, defined and reinforced the way we as men are supposed to tame, control and express our sexual drive – we need to remember that Christians are not defined by our failures, but by Christ’s triumph.

And this means while we need to be sensitive and wise when dealing with past failures and guilt, we also need to be careful this doesn’t become an excuse for us, and those around us, to not move forward in being living sacrifices for our God.

Are there particular past sins, which might make it inappropriate for us to serve in certain positions within the church?  Certainly.

Are the ongoing effects of some past sins going to mean we need to be careful about the situations we place ourselves in?  Absolutely.

But we have been forgiven through Christ.  We are meant to be living sacrifices.  So we need to be gutsy in owning up to our past, committed to living a holy life in the present, and determined to allow God to use us for His glory in the future.

It’s Gutsy Guilt.  Have a read of the article here.

300 Men For Jesus

300 Men Manifesto

Acknowledging our own past failures, we, the undersigned 300 men, challenge the men of our city to join us in getting serious about following Jesus. We confess we have often worshipped a convenient Jesus who has allowed us to continue unchallenged in our comfortable lives. We have made an idol for ourselves - a small, easy Jesus.
